Shedeur Sanders injury update: Browns hold QB out of team drills due to sore shoulder image

As Shedeur Sanders competes in the Browns quarterback competition, the rookie has reached an injury speed bump.

Sanders is dealing with a shoulder issue, and the team held him out of team drills during Saturday's practice. With Kenny Pickett also out with a hamstring injury, Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel were able to split the reps during practice.

The Browns face a difficult task in giving all four of their quarterbacks enough reps to properly evaluate them during practice. It's too early to tell how serious Sanders' injury is, but it allowed Cleveland to split reps between just two quarterbacks for the first time this summer.

Shedeur Sanders injury update

According to Mary Kay Cabot, Sanders told the team his shoulder was an issue during individual drills, and the team chose the sit him and evaluate him after practice. The Browns announced during practice that Sanders has shoulder soreness, which is the reason for his absence.

It's unclearly how long Sanders will be out of practice, but this doesn't sound like a serious injury, so he should be back in time to be ready for Cleveland's first preseason game on Aug. 8.

The four quarterbacks are taking part in the highest-profile quarterback competition this year, as Cleveland looks to move on from the Deshaun Watson era. Sanders' fifth-round price tag may put him initially behind in the competition, but a strong training camp could help him rise on the depth chart.
