Trey Hendrickson holdout update: Bengals star to report to camp amid contract dispute image

Trey Hendrickson's contract dispute with the Bengals has been one of the stories of training camp so far, as the star defensive lineman is set to enter the final year of his deal.

Hendrickson has been away from the team to begin training camp, with the two sides reportedly far apart in contract negotiations. That included when Bengals training camp began earlier this month, making Hendrickson's absence an official holdout.

However, the Bengals received a promising update regarding Hendrickson just over a week into training camp. Here's where Hendrickson's contract battle with Cincinnati stands.

Trey Hendrickson holdout update

On Tuesday, Ian Rapoport reported that Trey Hendrickson will report to training camp on Wednesday amid his contract dispute with the team. However, he will not practice with team, officially turning his holdout into a hold-in.

By reporting, Hendrickson will no longer be fined $50,000 a day for his absences. While ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the two sides are no closer to a resolution, Hendrickson hopes this gesture will help improve negotiations.

Hendrickson becomes the second player to turn his holdout into a hold-in to avoid fines, joining Commanders' wide receiver Terry McLaurin. Hendrickson, who led the league in sacks last year, is set to make $15.8 million in base salary this year ahead of his 31st birthday in December.

Hendrickson's arrival at training camp doesn't appear to have changed his negotiating position. He told reporters that "things are exactly the same" in regards to contract talks between him and Cincinnati, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
