The Buffalo Bills saw their undefeated start to the season come to an abrupt end at Highmark Stadium with a 23-20 loss to the New England Patriots.

There is a case to be made that Buffalo lost this game more than New England won it, but credit to Drake Maye and the Patriots for capitalizing on the multiple turnovers from the Bills' offense, along with the handful of penalties that kept pushing the unit back.

When there are that many self-inflicted wounds, it is hard to win a game in the NFL, and after assessing the game, Bills coordinator Joe Brady wasn't pleased with what he saw.

“There was nothing that was the standard last night,” Brady said. “When you turn the ball over three times, you have seven penalties, it’s really hard to beat a team in the NFL, while also having to overcome beating yourselves. That first half especially was about as bad as it gets, right? So disappointing, definitely wasn't the standard.”

Bills masters of their own downfall vs. Patriots

The Josh Allen interception in the redzone, coupled with multiple fumbles, meant the offense was consistently swimming against the tide.

Plus, the Patriots managed to score a field goal and a touchdown after two of the turnovers, and in a low-scoring game, that is the deciding factor.

Having had just one turnover in the opening month on offense, to then have three in one game is certainly an anomaly, and you can bet your house that the Bills will be doing everything in their power not to let that happen again.

Brady is right, nothing was to standard for Buffalo against the Patriots, and as a result, they were handed their first loss of the season.
