AFC has new 'boogeyman' with Bills' Josh Allen claims analyst image

The Buffalo Bills might have learned something incredible in the past two weeks, and it is something that might power their Super Bowl charge in 2025 -- let Josh Allen loose.

Granted, that sentence in years past would have been met with criticism, as turnovers and poor play often followed, but in the last two weeks, Allen has put on the Superman cape, hauled his team onto his back, and willed them to two impressive wins.

And as we turn for the playoffs, in which Patrick Mahomes is finally letting someone else play, for CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan, one AFC boogeyman is gone, but another is about to walk through the door.

"Allen and Co. Found themselves in a 21-0 hole midway through the second quarter," Sullivan wrote. At that juncture, it felt like a blowout was imminent with the Patriots en route to locking up the AFC East crown, thus snapping Buffalo's five-season streak as division champions.

"That was until Allen morphed into a role that he's grown quite accustomed to this season: the boogeyman."

If not now, when for Buffalo?

With three weeks left in the regular season, the Bills and Allen have almost the ideal scenario playing out.

Mahomes and Joe Burrow are already out of playoff contention, and Lamar Jackson is teetering on the edge. That means Allen will be the most senior quarterback in the conference in the postseason.

Does that count for something? Some think it should.

Given that the Bills' kryptonite, the Kansas City Chiefs, aren't in the tournament, there is now a clear path for Buffalo to not only reach the Super Bowl but also win it.

After years of having their season end at the hands of Mahomes, finally, a chance has come without that roadblock.

Can Allen take advantage? If he can't now, then many question whether he ever will.
