Ravens make $74.5 million contract stance clear with Lamar Jackson image

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson needs his contract status figured out.

His $74.5 million cap hit isn't sustainable for the franchise to then go and make the necessary moves to build out their roster.

That means timing is of high priority.

The franchise can't wait until free agency has already arrived before they get things sorted.

That means it has to be done before free agency opens on March 11. That's under two months away.

And owner Steve Bisciotti has already told Lamar he wants to get it done quickly.

“The urgency of that matters to me because we’ve got free agents, and I don’t want to go into free agency with that hanging over our head,” Bisciotti said. “I made that clear to Lamar, and I think he was very appreciative of my stance.”

Ravens not about to wait on Lamar

Timing is everything, and with free agency set to open in under two months, that means a handful of weeks for the franchise and Jackson to come to an agreement.

Can it be done? Of course.

Will it be done? That's another thing entirely.

But it does feel like both parties know where the other stands on it, and all that is needed is for both to get in a room and thrash this thing out.

Contracts rarely go that smoothly, but after Lamar's last extension, it is clear Bisciotti doesn't want a repeat.

And it sounds like he won't get it.
