The Texas Longhorns defeated the Sam Houston Bearkats by a final score of 55-0 on Saturday. Texas improved to 3-1 on the season and Sam Houston dropped to 0-4.
The Longhorns were the eighth ranked team in the nation entering this game. Arch Manning played good in this game as he completed 18-of-21 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns. Manning is getting better week by week, but the schedule has not been impressive for them after facing the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes during the first week of the season.
Texas Longhorns Drop Two Spots in AP Poll
It is not a surprise that Texas has been dropping in the AP Poll. The Longhorns will not have a game in week five. Texas will face the Florida Gators on the road on October 4. They were ranked eighth before week four and now they dropped two spots and are ranked 10th in the country.
The Longhorns are ranked behind the Oklahoma Sooners (7) and the Texas A&M Aggies (9). The good news is that they will play both of those teams later this season. Texas will also have to play the Georgia Bulldogs, who is ranked fifth in the nation. This team has a brutal schedule coming up and there is a chance that they could miss the playoffs after making the college football playoffs semifinals the last two seasons.
If Texas were to lose two more games this season, this team is in potential danger of missing the playoffs. This is some territory that head coach Steve Sarkisian does not want to get himself into. The highest ranked team in the SEC Conference for now is the LSU Tigers at number four. The Longhorns have the talent to make the playoffs. Every single SEC Conference game is going to matter for this program.
Manning is going to have perform at a high level if they are going to get back to the playoffs and make another run. For now, the AP Poll believes that Texas is a bubble playoff team. They are going to have to earn their stripes after the bye week.
