It's always hard to say goodbye to a job that you've held on to for so long. The amount of time and effort you put into building relationships won't go unnoticed by the people you've worked side by side for so many years. For former Oklahoma State HC Mike Gundy, it's even harder, having to say farewell to the program he spent 21 years cultivating.
On September 23rd, Oklahoma State announced the firing of long-time head coach Gundy after 21 years at the helm. This came after a 1-2 start to the 2025 season for the Cowboys, most notably a shocking 19-12 loss against Tulsa at home.

After the news was announced, a photo was posted on X/Twitter by Kenyatta Wright, the general manager of the Cowboys, of Gundy addressing the team one final time.

We now know what he said to his team, thanks to a report from Oklahoma State beat writer McClain Baxley, and he left them with a fiery message.
"You look this adversity in the eye. You keep the course. Stay the course and you continue to fight and beat Baylor's a--," Gundy said.

Nothing says Gundy more than leaving the program he built in a blaze of glory with a heartfelt speech to the kids he recruited.
During Gundy's tenure at Oklahoma State, he finished with a 170-90 record, a Big 12 championship, three Big 12 coach of the year awards, and 12 bowl victories.
The Cowboys look to bounce back from the firing news as they prepare to take on the Baylor Bears in their Big 12 opener on Saturday, September 27th.
