Texas Tech HC Joey gives major injury update ahead of Red Raiders week 2 matchup image

Texas Tech dominated Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past weekend, 67 to 7. It did come at a cost, however, as the Wednesday availability report was released for the Red Raiders ahead of their matchup against Kent State.

Texas Tech listed its starting QB, Behren Morton, as questionable for Saturday's game. Morton had played an impressive first game back since his shoulder surgery. He threw for 201 yards, completed 16 of his 18 passes, and scored 4 touchdowns in the first half. That all came to a halt as he got hit low on his right leg, which called for a roughing the passer penalty. Morton left with 9 minutes left in the 2nd quarter and would not return for the rest of the game.

Texas Tech HC Joey McGuire gave an update on Thursday night on Morton's status for Saturday's game. "We will know for sure in the morning. He did everything today, he looked great. I will be really surprised if he doesn't (start)," McGuire said.

If Morton is not ready to go for Saturday's game, then backup QB Will Hammond will get the nod to start the game against the Golden Flashes. He showed promise stepping up for Morton after his injury, scoring two touchdowns, which included a 64-yard run to the house.

Kent State is coming off a 21-17 victory over Merrimack, snapping a 21-game losing streak. The New York Times has ranked Kent State as the 132nd-worst team in the nation out of 136 teams in Division 1.

The game will be broadcast on TNT at 11:00 a.m. CT.
