There was a lot of disappointment with the Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball program after they lost to the Florida Gators in the Elite 8 last season. Texas Tech felt like they let one slip away.
As they turn the page to the 2025-26college basketball season, this program believes that they are national title contenders. Even with the departure of Darrion Williams to the North Carolina State Wolfpack, the Red Raiders will be riding on other players to lead them to success this season. One player who will be counted on to lead this team this season is point guard Christian Anderson.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Head Coach Grant McCasland believes he's one of the best
Red Raiders head coach Grant McCasland talked about the expectations for this program entering the 2025-26 season. He knows what kind of special talent he has with Anderson being the point guard. McCasland said to Sam Lance of on3.com about the point guard,
"He’s one of the best PG’s in the country."
He is going to need to take a major leap during his sophomore season. During his freshman season with Texas Tech, he averaged 10.6 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 2.2 APG, 0.1 BPG, and 1.2 SPG. Anderson also shot 42.9% from the field.
There is no doubt that this program is going to be ranked in the top 10-15 once the season begins. They play in a very difficult BIG12 Conference with the BYU Cougars, the Kansas Jayhawks, the Arizona Wildcats, the Houston Cougars, and the Baylor Bears. If Texas Tech is going to be a serious contender once again this season, Williams must be the best player on his team.
When March Madness rolls around, the teams who have the best guard play usually win the NCAA Tournament. The last time Texas Tech made it to the Final Four was in 2019 where they lost to the Virginia Cavaliers in the national title game. It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers Williams will put up this year. If he is one of the best point guards in the country, this team will be a contender.
