San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama is entering his third NBA season with the franchise after being the number one overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He is only 21 years old and has a chance to be one of the all-time greats for the Spurs if he lives up to his potential.
Some of the greatest icons in Spurs history are Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, David Robinson, Manu Ginobili, and Tim Duncan. Duncan won five NBA titles with San Antonio during his NBA career, and he was also known as "Mr. Fundamental." Just like people debate about who's greater between Lebron James and Michael Jordan, there have also been debates about who's greater between Duncan and Kobe Bryant.
San Antonio Spurs Victor Wembanyama Sides with Kobe Bryant Over Tim Duncan
Wembanyama was on a reel on Instagram live with the Spurs. He was asked a question by a fan if he thought Kobe or Duncan, was a better player. Wembanyama said,
"Probably Kobe…actually, I don’t know."
Well, they both each won five NBA titles during there NBA career. Wembanyama actually had to hesitate with his answer because Bryant played for the Lakers and Duncan played for the Spurs. In reality, most fans agree with Wembanyama about Bryant being a better player than Duncan during his NBA career.
With that being said, they both led in different ways. Bryant was more of an alpha male and Duncan was more of a quiet leader and just got the job done. The Lakers and the Spurs also had historic playoff series against each other when they were both in the NBA. Also, Bryant played guard and Duncan played forward. There is nothing wrong with what Wembanyama said, but Spurs fans probably were caught off guard a little bit with what he said.
