The Spurs have turned a team that was pushing to make it back into the playoffs into one that could be close to a contender in the next season or two.
Victor Wembanyama's superstar status is inevitable, so they had to fill in the voids around him.
Acquiring De'Aaron Fox was the first big step in filling a major void and they just handed a massive extension to, keeping him in San Antonio for quite some time.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday that the Spurs extended guard De'Aaron Fox. He signed a new contract worth $229 million over four years, keeping him under contract through the 2029-2030 NBA season.
Fox was acquired at the 2025 trade deadline to give San Antonio a legit franchise point guard to pair alongside Wembanyama.
Fox will turn 28 years old next season, and this contract will keep him with the Spurs until age 32.
He was an all-star with the Kings just a couple of seasons ago in 2022-23.

The AAV on the contract comes out to about $57.25 million a year.
Fox will have a lot to accomplish with this talented Spurs roster he'll be playing with next season, especially after signing such a massive extension. He's no doubt one of the best two-way guards in the NBA right now, so we will finally get to see that on full display in his first full season with the Spurs coming up this fall.
Fox played just 17 games with San Antonio after being traded, averaging 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.5 steals.
