De'Aaron Fox was traded from the Sacramento Kings to the San Antonio Spurs during the middle of the 2024-25 NBA season. Fox is 27 years old and is entering the prime of his career.

He may not be ready for the start of the 2025-26 season for San Antonio because of a hamstring injury. This team is looking to be a playoff contender once again this season. They are very deep at guard. Would this team potentially trade Fox this season?

NBA Insider Believes San Antonio Spurs Should Not Trade De'Aaron Fox

Sam Quinn of CBS Sports wrote about players who could potentially be surprising trade candidates at some point this season. One name that he listed was Fox. San Antonio just acquired him in a trade. It would be foolish if they were to trade him again. Quinn said,

"Moving him right away sends a message to other players about how they might be treated if they also try to get to San Antonio. If nothing else, you don't want to piss off an agent as powerful as Rich Paul. San Antonio has to let this play out for the time being. But sooner or later, one of those guards is moving. So it will be a storyline until it's settled."

They also Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper on the roster. Fox could potentially be the odd man out in two-to-three years from now. This franchise can't afford to trade him this season. San Antonio needs to figure out what they have with those three guards, Victor Wembanyama, and others on the roster before making adjustments for the long-term.

In 62 total games last season, Fox averaged 23.5 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 6.3 APG, 0.4 BPG, and 1.5 SPG. He also shot 46.3% from the field. When healthy, he is going to be in the starting lineup for the Spurs. It was a surprise when the Kings traded him last season and it made sense for this team to get him. They will have expectations to make the playoffs this season. Fox's name being mentioned as a surprise trade candidate for the 2025-26 season is utter nonsense.
