Portland Trail Blazers first-round draft pick Yang Hansen has been one of the most-discussed rookies in the NBA since being selected at No. 16 overall.
The 7-foot-1, 260-pound 20-year-old center from China is a relative unknown in NBA circles - and his future projections vary widely.
So far, he's been called "Chinese Jokic" and also been dubbed the biggest reach in the draft.
But while NBA fans eagerly anticipate his Blazers summer league debut Friday at 8 p.m. PT, there is some evidence for fans to chew on.
And those results are a mix bag to say the least.
Hansen played for China in the California Classic Summer League last year and struggled to produce.
Here are his statlines from those three contests - all blowout losses:
3-game average - 8.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0 steals, 0.34 blocks, 4.67 turnovers, 4.0 fouls
July 6 vs Sacramento Kings (101-50 L) - 8 points (3-for-3 from field, 2-for-3 free throw line), 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 3 turnovers, 2 fouls
July 7 vs Charlotte Hornets (93-62 L) - 12 points (4-for-8 from field, 4-for-6 from free throw line, 4 rebound, 1 assist, 0 steals, 1 block, 7 turnovers, 6 fouls
July 9 vs. San Antonio Spurs (89-67 L; no Victor Wembanyama) - 6 points (0-for-5 from the field, 6-fot-6 from free throw line), 8 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 4 turnovers, 4 fouls
In truth, it's difficult to gauge how meaningful those numbers truly are for Hansen.
Statistics in blowouts - especially those in an exhibition game - can get wonky, and given the talent disparity it's likely he was hampered by a lack of talent around him.
It will be fascinating to see how he finishes around the rim at his size and to see if the passing highlights are just that - highlights - or if he can become a high-level NBA distributor.
For Hansen to warrant anything close to "Chinese Jokic" comps he's got to prove he can efficiency pass at a much better clip than his 1:4.67 assist-to-turnover ratio from last year.
But with a year of experience and relatively even talent level Friday it's possible Blazers fans see a much-improve Hansen in Summer League 2025.
After all, he's the same prospect who averaged 12.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 5.0 blocks per game for China in the 2023 U19 FIBA World Cup.
