The Philadelphia 76ers are already having a tumultuous 2025-2026 season, and training camp hasn't even begun. Joel Embiid is still a ways away, and recently, Jared McCain suffered a tough injury, and Kyle Lowry is joining Amazon's NBA on Prime crew.

While some of those notes are more serious than others, the 76ers are still dealing with a lot of noteworthy moments heading into the upcoming NBA season. And before training camp begins, the 76ers got a key update on Paul George that, once again, isn't great news.

According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, George gave a big update on his status for the upcoming 76ers training camp.

Paul George reveals key update ahead of 76ers training camp

"Paul George said he doesn't think he'll be a part of the Sixers' training camp," Pompey reported. "The Sixers forward said he can do everything but full contact at this time. The Sixers training camp starts tomorrow."

This is a very important update for the 76ers and George. With training camp starting the next day, George revealed that he won't be a participant right away.

It's a worrying update, but his messaging does leave room for a return in the near future. Even with his initial absence from the 76ers' training camp, George's comments point to the forward being ready to go before the regular season begins.

With Embiid dealing with a knee injury and McCain also banged up, the 76ers need George to be ready to go at the start of the year. His return isn't only paramount for the start of the season, but also for George to make his massive $211 million contract worth it.

Due to his lackluster 2024-2025 season, in which he averaged just 16.2 points per game (the lowest in a season since 2014-2015), George needs to have a bounce-back year for Philadelphia this upcoming season.

Not being ready to go at the start of training camp is a concern, but there's still hope that he will be healthy by the start of the regular season and, hopefully, be ready during training camp, even if not at the beginning.

His poor debut season with the 76ers, combined with the absences of Embiid and McCain, will put a lot of pressure on George to bounce back and be ready by the start of the upcoming NBA season.

After just 41 games in 2024-2025, George will miss the start of training camp due to his offseason knee surgery. At 35 years old, George needs a bounce-back season in his second year in Philadelphia, and this announcement from George is a reminder that said bounce-back won't come easily.
