Lakers' LeBron James wants NBA to make a major rule change image

LeBron James has played a lot of international basketball under FIBA rules while representing the United States.

There's one particular rule difference that he's a big fan of: the altered goaltending rules.

In international play, a defender can whack the ball off the rim if it's bouncing around up there. If that happened in the NBA, the basket would count.

James spoke on his Mind the Game podcast about his fandom of this particular aspect of play.

"I've been very intrigued with the goaltending rule," James said. "I actually love it. I love it. It's exciting."

It wouldn't be a huge change, James explained.

"It doesn't happen as much as you would think," James said. "Even when you're playing against the international guys and this is there rule, sometimes the ball is tinkering around the rim and they just kind of (frozen)."

If the rule came to the NBA, it might be too late for the 40-year old James to really enjoy it.

The rule would probably prioritize, at least slightly, a new kind of rim protector, one with quick hops and reactions in on-the-rim scenarios.

In reality, it'd probably only matter once or twice a game, and it would create a new twist on the never-ending battle between offense and defense.

LeBron's legendary basketball mind is usually worth trusting on these kinds of things. If he thinks it'd be fun, it probably would be.
