Draymond Green hints at retirement timeline and post-NBA plans image

Draymond Green is nearing the end of his storied career and has finally begun to reveal some of his thoughts on what a post-retirement life looks like for him.

The soon-to-be 36-year-old recognizes that he has begun to think about what he plans to do once his playing time is up, which could involve remaining in the league, even after he decides to call it a career as a player in the NBA.

What are Draymond Green's post-NBA plans?

In a recent article by Nick Friedell, Draymond revealed, “As I get closer to the end, I think a little bit more about [retirement] and I’m definitely closer than I was a couple years ago.”

Green is currently in his 14th year in the NBA, playing every season as a member of the Golden State Warriors.

He's won four championships and was named DPOY in 2016-17, to name a few of his notable accolades.

Whether you love him or hate him, he's had a huge impact on his team and the league as a whole in the last decade and a half.

He has knowledge of the sport that few could match, and he might look to hang around in the NBA or in the sport in general to continue to spread his knowledge and give back to the game.

In Friedell's article, Green didn't say it was a definite that he would coach after he retires, but didn't rule it out either, saying, "I’m not gonna sit here and tell you, ‘Yes, I’m gonna coach when I’m done.’ But I won’t tell you no anymore.”

Regarding how much time he has left playing, Green stated, "I still think I got quite a bit left in the tank to keep playing right now."

Green clearly values his roots, stating in the interview that he would love to coach at Golden State or Michigan State once his NBA career ends if he got the opportunity to, but that's not at the top of his mind right now, with more to focus on as a player at the moment.

Green has a $27.68 million player option for next season as a part of the final year of his extension that he signed a few years ago.

In the 2025-26 NBA season, Green is currently averaging 8.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists.
