The Dallas Mavericks might have lucked themselves into one of the biggest moves in NBA history after selecting Cooper Flagg.
The Mavericks were lucky to get the first overall pick, more specifically, especially after moving on from Luka Doncic in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis and more.
The Mavericks now have another player who looks to be a potential superstar and he's going into the perfect scenario.
The Mavericks are loaded from top to bottom, and when healthy, there's even reason to believe they could win a championship as early as next season if Kyrie Irving returns and is ready to play at the highest level.
Golden State Warriors champion Draymond Green had plenty to say about how this situation unfolded. He noted that Flagg might be going into the best situation for a No. 1 pick, adding that he couldn't have asked for anything better as a player.
"I don't think he could have asked for anything better as the number one pick," Green said on Friday's “Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis.” "You ain't gotta go average 25 points on a bad team or 20 points on a bad team."
He later stated that when a player is selected first overall in most scenarios, they typically go to an organization that isn't in a good spot. For the Mavericks, that's the complete opposite, despite trading Doncic.
"A lot of times, when you're the number one pick, you go to a s----- organization," Green said. "This time, it's going to a great organization."
Of course, Flagg should be in a good position to perform right away and help the Mavericks, but there will also likely be some growing pains.
He's only 18 years old, which is important to remember when he first steps onto the court in Dallas.
