The Dallas Mavericks have been one of the teams dominating the headlines over the last calendar year. From the Luka Doncic trade to landing the first overall pick in the NBA Draft Lottery and picking Cooper Flagg, it's been a wild year so far.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Mavericks are making a big decision at the beginning of September, as PJ Washington, the team's power forward over the last year and a half, is signing a big extension to stay in Dallas.
It's a big deal for the veteran Washington, as at age 26, he's cashing in on a big deal that will keep him in Dallas for the next few years. After being acquired in the 2023-2024 season from the Charlotte Hornets, Washington has found a home in Dallas.
Mavericks Ink Washington to Big Contract Extension
According to Shams Charania on Twitter/X, the Mavericks and Washington agreed to a huge four-year, $90 million extension which locks him up through the 2029-2030 season. The contract was negotiated by his agent, Kevin Bradbury of LIFT Sports Management.

It's a sizeable extension for the power forward, as he gets to stay in Dallas for the next five seasons as he looks to help the team get back to the NBA Finals after coming up just short in 2023-2024.
Washington was a part of that Finals team, as he averaged 35.7 minutes per game, and 13 points per game with 1.4 assists and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Mavericks during the finals run.

This past season, across 57 games played, Washington averaged 32.2 minutes per game with a .453 field goal percentage and 14.7 points per game, along with 2.3 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Dallas acquired Washington during the 2023-2024 season, as Dallas sent Seth Curry, Grant Williams, and a 2027 first-round pick to the Hornets for Washington and a 2024 second-round pick.
A little over a year and a half since making a big trade to acquire Washington, the former Hornets first-round pick in 2017 has found a home in Dallas and is signing a big $90 million extension to stay with the Mavericks during this window of contention.
