When the Dallas Mavericks traded for Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic last season, Davis did not play in many games for them because of injury. He only played in nine games for Dallas and played in 51 overall during the 2024-25 season.

During the offseason, he underwent eye surgery and is still recovering from it. Is there a chance that the Mavericks forward can potentially miss the start of the 2025-26 season? An NBA insider weighs on that topic.

Dallas Mavericks Anthony Davis in Danger of Missing Start to the 2025-26 NBA Season

NBA insider Marc Stein appeared on the DLLS Mavs Podcast. Stein said about Davis's eye surgery,

"He's not fully back on the court yet."

Practice will begin on September 30. Stein is also wondering if he is going to be even ready to return to the basketball court by then. If Davis is not ready for the start of the 2025-26 season, this will not be good for Dallas. The Mavericks are already dealing with Kyrie Irving not being ready for the year because he is still recovering from a torn ACL.

If Davis is also out to start the season, rookie Cooper Flagg is going to have a big role for this team immediately. Even with Flagg on the team, they have a lot of veterans on the roster. During the 2024-25 season, Davis averaged 24.7 PPG, 11.6 RPG, 3.5 APG, 2.2 BPG, and 1.2 SPG. He also shot 51.6% from the field.

With the Mavericks being unsure of Davis being ready for the 2025-26 season, there is a good chance that P.J. Washington could be inserted into the starting lineup. A lot of more questions will be answered about Davis's availability when training camp begins in a few weeks.
