The Dallas Mavericks made one of the most surprising moves in league history, and there has been no shortage of reactions, even six months later.

In February, the Mavericks dealt Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in the biggest blockbuster of the season. The young star had just led Dallas to the NBA Finals and was primed to deliver more deep postseason runs to the Mavericks throughout his career.

While the trade was certainly shocking, one of the players from Dallas’ 2011 title run recently revealed his thoughts on the situation. In an interview with Eurohoops.net, Tyson Chandler explained his reaction and how he believes things will unfold in the future.

How Does Tyson Chandler Feel About the Luka Trade?

“I was just as surprised as the rest of the world with the trade. I think it will end up working out for both sides, you know, in the long run. But I was just surprised, clearly.”

Currently, Chandler is a player development coach with the Mavericks, a position he’s held since 2021. So, it’s not all that surprising that he would say he believes in what the Mavericks are working with.

However, if he wasn’t working with the team, he might be willing to give some more interesting insight into what the trade really means. In the same interview, Chandler raved about Doncic’s work ethic and compared him to Magic Johnson because of his unique skillset.

As the Mavericks gear up for the first full season of the post-Luka era, it will be hard to forget the legacy Doncic could have left in Dallas as he forges a new one in Los Angeles.
