Cavaliers reveal stance on De'Andre Hunter ahead of upcoming NBA trade deadline image

The Cavaliers haven't exactly capitalized in the big moments since having an incredible regular season last year.

They've made several moves in recent years to acquire key rotational players, whether it be a star or a quality starter, including De'Andre Hunter, whom they traded for last season.

Hunter has had a clear dip in production recently, which will force the Cavs to decide on his future with the team, only a year after acquiring him.

Will the Cavs keep or trade De'Andre Hunter?

NBA insider Sam Amico reported on Hunter recently amid the Cavs sitting in a play-in position, just one season after finishing as the #1 seed in the East.

Amico noted, "Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com [said] the Cavs have not engaged in any serious trade discussions to this point."

Hunter is shooting his second-lowest FG% for a season, with his worst mark coming in his rookie year.

He's also shot a career-worst 30.3 3P%, which is 12.3% below his mark in the 2024-25 season.

Although Hunter and the Cavs are having a down season, the East is very tight at the moment, and the Cavs are just four games behind the Knicks, who are the #2 seed as it stands.

When Hunter plays, the Cavs have a record of 19-17, as opposed to their record of 20-7 when Hunter played with the team towards the end of the season last year, after he was traded for.

Although, from what it appears, the Cavs are looking to stick with Hunter, who is under contract through next season, Fedor stated, "if Hunter’s play does not stabilize and injuries continue to linger, it would not be surprising to see the Cavs at least explore its options ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline."
