The past few weeks have featured a lot of changes in Boston.
After the Celtics won the NBA title in 2024, their front office chose to run it back for 2025. It was a great decision, with the team winning 61 games and still being pegged as the favorite to come out of the East and make their third NBA Finals in four seasons.
However, everything collapsed for the franchise in the second round. After blowing a couple of big leads at home, the Celtics dug too deep of a hole to climb out of against the New York Knicks.
While Jayson Tatum’s injury sealed their fate, the Celtics had little to be optimistic about anyway. One of their problems was the health concern of Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis had been dealing with an illness throughout the season and into the playoffs.
While 2025 didn’t have a happy ending, Porzingis has a chance to start over in Atlanta after the Celtics traded him to the Hawks to begin the offseason. Porzingis recently caught up with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Lauren Williams to talk about the trade.
“Our season didn’t end last year the way we wanted to,” Porzingis said. “But this is how it goes, you know. And obviously, we expected that there were going to be changes in my whole team. And having a little bit longer summer than usual is, it’s awesome always as a player, because it’s just, the NBA season is tough.”
While the changes were expected, they still come with a toll on players like Porzingis. At least in this case, Porzingis seems to be excited about the prospect of playing for an Atlanta Hawks team that could be a legitimate threat in the Eastern Conference next season.
