If there’s one front office member to never count out around the NBA, it's Boston Celtics general manager Brad Stevens.

Stevens is among the best in the NBA at what he does, and while he's had a decent offseason so far despite the limited assets to work with, given where the Celtics stand, some believe that there could be a path for them to find a star.

That includes NESN’s Colin Keane, who recently noted that the Celtics could make a play for Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James

“For the Celtics, pursuing LeBron makes more sense than most people might realize. With Jayson Tatum expected to miss the 2025-26 season, James could fill a significant chunk of the void without cutting into Boston’s long-term cap space.

"A buyout situation would minimize financial strain for Brad Stevens, allowing the Celtics to pair LeBron with Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, forming a formidable core in a weak Eastern Conference,” he wrote.

Obviously, this would be a swing of all swings, as the Celtics would still attempt to go all in despite Jayson Tatum's injury.

Once Tatum comes back, there wouldn't be much of a reason to have James on the roster, and one could already suggest that there isn't, but as Keane noted, a buyout situation would change that thought process.

If James were to be bought out, it’d make sense for nearly every team in the NBA to give him a look. The Celtics might not be in a position to compete right now because of Tatum's injury, and while he certainly is better than James at the stage of his career, it's tough to say that it wouldn't be intriguing.
