The Texas Rangers decided to move on from manager Bruce Bochy a day after the 2025 MLB regular season ended. Bochy was with the Rangers for the last three seasons.

Despite missing the playoffs the last two seasons, Texas won the World Series in 2023 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was the first time in franchise history that the Rangers won it all. With the franchise moving in a different direction, is the managerial search almost over for this team?

A clear front runner for manager emerges

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News was covering the Rangers end of season presser. He reported on Friday, "Biggest news out of Rangers year end presser: Skip Schumaker is the focus for managerial search; Rangers not currently entertaining thoughts of external candidates."

It is not a surprise that Texas had made this announcement. He is currently in a senior advisor role for the Rangers. Schumaker has been a manager before with the Miami Marlins from 2023-24. He made the playoffs with Miami in 2023 and didn't qualify for the playoffs for 2024.

This would be an interesting hire for the Rangers. It appears as if they are not interested in doing a long search for managers from the outside. His record as a manager is 146-178. He is only 45 years old. With the Rangers going in a younger direction, there is a chance that they could trade away some older players.

This is probably why they didn't want to renew the contract of Bochy, who is 70 years old. The current bench coach for the Rangers is Luis Urueta. He was also being considered for the managerial job, but Schumaker appears to be next line to be the next Rangers skipper in the dugout.
