Aaron Boone’s tenure as manager of the New York Yankees is brought into question every single year. After another disappointing playoff exit, some are already looking for his potential replacement.

It should be noted that Boone is under contract with the Yankees through the 2027 season, so any decision to can him now would seem a bit unusual. Nonetheless, speculation of his firing is still rampant.

Adam Weinrib of Yanks Go Yard suggests that the Yankees may already have Boone’s successor in the organization, pointing to Shelley Duncan, the current manager of their Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre affiliate. Duncan played for the Yankees from 2007-2009.

“If the job does open up, though, the Yankees would be wise to examine Duncan's accolades,” Weinrib said. “He comes from a big-league bloodline (his father, Dave Duncan, was the Cardinals' revered pitching coach for many years/Tony La Russa's right-hand man). His MLB career might not have been as long as Boone's, but his Yankees career was more distinguished.”

For now, Boone remains the manager of the Yankees. Just how long that remains the case is what is still to be seen. The Yankees’ core of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gerrit Cole aren’t getting any younger, so the Yankees must take a close look regarding Boone’s capability to propel the team to their first World Series victory since 2009.
