The New York Yankees were very active at the MLB trade deadline in the 2025 season, picking up options that boosted the team's bullpen as well as their infield, specifically at shortstop.
And with their chances of winning the AL East growing slimmer by the day thanks to the recent run that the Toronto Blue Jays have been on, their attention is expected to shift to the postseason as they are far and above the cut line for the AL Wild Card.
As the roster lowers from 53 players to 26, it seems that their deals have paid off.
Trade Deadline Pickups All Projected To Make Postseason Roster
According to Max Goodman with the NJ Advance Media, in an article where he predicted the 26-man roster, all of the notable pickups for the Pinstripes made the cut: Ryan McMahon, David Bednar, and Jose Caballero.
Caballero's involvement in the postseason roster further feeds the fire of the argument of who should start at shortstop for the team, as Anthony Volpe was also projected to be one of the six infielders on the team in the postseason.
Caballero has been outstanding in Volpe's absence after a partial injury in his shoulder, and his defensive play has drawn praise as well, as opposed to Volpe, who hasn't exactly lived up to expectations in 2025, giving Aaron Boone a big decision to make as the playoffs loom closer.
David Bednar's addition to the bullpen should not come as a surprise, holding a 3-0 record with a 2.75 ERA, eight saves, and 28 strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work.
As for third baseman Ryan McMahon, who came to The Bronx from the Colorado Rockies, has produced just as well with New York in his 46 games with the team, with three home runs and 16 runs batted in, bringing his total to the year at19 homers and 51 RBI, though his .216 average might raise some eyebrows.
