New York Yankees starting pitcher Cam Schlitter has more than earned the team’s trust as a rookie this season, and that trust could extend even further in the postseason.
Per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Schlitter will start Game 3 of the Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox if it’s necessary. In just a short time in the big leagues, Schlitter could be getting the ball in a win-or-go home scenario if it comes down to that.
Schlitter debuted on July 9, and since then has quickly established himself as one of the Yankees’ top arms in the rotation. In 14 starts this season, Schlitter pitched to a 4-3 record with a 2.96 ERA, including 84 strikeouts in 73.0 innings of work.
During the regular season, Schlitter didn’t pitch against the Red Sox during any of their matchups. He’ll be tasked with giving the Yankees a chance to take the series if they are unable to win the first two games.
The Yankees are looking to avenge their 2021 Wild Card round loss to the Red Sox with a strong showing this year. Should the Yankees advance, they’ll meet the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS on Saturday.
