New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera has been out for the majority of the season, but that doesn’t mean he still hasn’t been a beacon of positivity for the team this season.

Cabrera’s season ended abruptly in May following a gruesome ankle injury against the Seattle Mariners. Despite the grotesque nature of the injury, Cabrera’s spirit never wavered.

Fast forward to present day, and the Yankees have clinched a spot in the postseason once again. After the team’s 3-2 walk-off victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, Cabrera told The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner about the challenges he has faced having to watch the Yankees succeed from the dugout.

“It’s not fun being on my side because I feel like I can’t do anything for the team inside the field,” Cabrera said. “But I have the opportunity to pick my guys up in the dugout. That’s everything that matters to me right now is to try to pick my guys up and to get the vibes up.”

“I’m so happy for my guys,” he added. “That’s all that matters to me. I feel like I’m still part of the family.”

Now in the postseason once again, the Yankees will try to repeat last season’s success and get back to the World Series — only they’ll look to actually finish the job this time. The Yankees are still in play for the AL East division crown, sitting just one game behind the Toronto Blue Jays with five games remaining.
