New York Metsoutfielder Juan Soto hit a home run in a 7-4 loss against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night. Soto also just missed a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh inning, and he was also the tying run up to the plate in the ninth inning.

Soto made the final out of the game. With the loss for the Mets, they drop to 78-74 on the season. They currently lead the Arizona Diamondbacks by 1.5 games for the final wild card spot in the National League. The magic number for the Mets to make the playoffs is nine. There is not much time left in the season and this team understands it.

New York Mets Outfielder Juan Soto Makes Bold Statement After the Loss

Soto has been one of the best players on this team all season long. With just 10 games remaining in the 205 MLB regular season, he understands that this team has to win as many games as possible in order to make it to the playoffs. Soto said after the game,

"We've gotta get going today. We can't wait till tomorrow. Tomorrow's going to be too late."

He is very aware that every game matters from here on out. The Mets will play the Padres at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon. After that, they will face the Washington Nationals, the Chicago Cubs, and the Miami Marlins to close out the regular season.

The starting pitching needs to get its act together and it is one of the reasons why the Mets are making it hard on themselves to make the playoffs. Soto has been doing everything he can to get his team to the postseason. In 150 games played for New York in 2025, he has a .261 batting average with 41 home runs and 99 RBIs, along with 32 stolen bases and three caught stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .394.

Soto understands what's at stake during the final 10 games of this season. Hopefully the rest of the team follows his lead, and they will also start playing with a sense of urgency as well.
