Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Kike Hernandez throws to first on a bunt at Chase Field on Aug. 31, 2024, in Phoenix.

Since being placed on the injured list with left elbow inflammation at the start of July, the possibility of Dodgers utility man Kiké Hernandez returning to the team was looking bleak.

Luckily, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided a huge update on Hernandez's health status and a potential timeline on when the 33-year-old could return.

"He's doing baseball activities now," Roberts stated before the Dodgers' Sunday afternoon game. Roberts then went on to say that the team is hoping for a September return for Hernandez.

Hernandez has played in 71 games thus far for Los Angeles, posting a slash line of .195/.259/.367. Along with that cold slashline, Hernandez has displayed a high chase rate that exceeds 30%, according to BaseballSavant

Despite the concerning numbers at the plate, Hernandez has provided immense production on the defensive side for Los Angeles. The versatility on defense that Hernandez provides ranges from every corner of the field, including having some time on the mound in 2025, appearing in five games toeing the slab, posting a 15.19 ERA through 5.1 innings pitched.

Hernandez's arrival will be a boost for the Dodgers, especially in the race to the finish line in October, where the utility man really excels.

Hernandez has played a total of 86 career postseason games, posting a solid slashline of .278/.353/.522 across games played for the Dodgers and Boston Red Sox.
