The Dodgers will go into the Wild Card Series with their starting catcher.
According to sources close to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Los Angeles catcher Will Smith will be included in the Dodgers' roster for the Wild Card Series against the Cincinnati Reds and will be available off the bench.
Smith had been absent for a good chunk of September after being diagnosed with a fracture in his right hand. The Dodgers catcher made significant improvement on Monday during the Dodgers' Wild Card Workout day as he participated in live at-bats.
With Smith being available on the 26-man roster, it points to his services primarily being used as a pinch-hitter.
One thing for certain is that the Dodgers will carry two catchers who will be behind the plate: Ben Rodvert and Dalton Rushing.
The Dodgers will carry three catchers, given that Smith will only be used as a pinch-hitter, and it is also looking like Rodvert will be taking the primary share of starts behind the dish, as he had been during the final stretch of the season.
