The 2023 Masters Tournament is here, and that means that the world's best golfers are making their annual pilgrimage to Augusta National Golf Club to contest the major for the 87th time.

Among them will be the 2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, world No. 1 golfer Jon Rahm and betting-favorite Rory McIlroy.

While those players will draw a lot of attention for their performance in the event, many fans will be keeping a close eye on Tiger Woods.

Woods hasn't played much since he sustained several injuries in a 2021 car crash that left him "lucky to be alive," in the words of Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. He did, however, compete in the 2022 Masters just 13 months after the crash, so many will be looking forward to seeing him repeat that feat this year.

But is Tiger Woods playing in the Masters in 2023? Here's what to know about his status as he looks to win his 16th career major championship.

Is Tiger Woods playing in the Masters?

Yes, Tiger Woods will play in the 2023 edition of the Masters. It will mark the 47-year-old's second event of the 2023 calendar year after he played at The Genesis Invitational in February. He finished tied for 45th in that event after carding a 1-under score.

Woods arrived at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, per the Masters' official website. He was seen chatting with Jason Day and walked the course beginning at about 4 p.m. ET.

Woods had played the back nine holes after his arrival in 2022. This year, he carried just "a few wedges and his putter" as he navigated the course, getting in some early practice shots.

The Masters noted that was the pre-event approach that Woods took back in 2019, when he emerged as a surprise winner at the event. He will now look to match that feat, or at least improve upon his 47th-place finish from 2022.

Woods is set to tee off at 10:18 a.m. Thursday in the first round alongside Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele.
