Who are the favourites to win the 2025 Ryder Cup?
Despite losing two years ago in relatively comprehensive fashion, the US are favourites to regain the Ryder Cup this year for multiple reasons.
As mentioned, home advantage has proved hugely significant over the years and particularly recently, with Europe's last win Stateside coming with the Miracle at Medinah in 2012. The Americans will have a lively crowd behind them in New York and it's sure to create a partisan atmosphere.
The US also possess seven of the world's top 10 ranked golfers, including undisputed World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, who is in red hot form this season having most recently won the The Open ahead of teammate Harris English. Scheffler will be looking to right the wrongs of his disastrous showing in Rome and looks primed to do so.
2025 Ryder Cup Predictions
Despite the home crowd and having several of the supposed best golfers in the world, the US also have a rookie captain in Keegan Bradley and have struggled for team unity several times in recent memory.
That is not the case for the Europeans, with Luke Donald looking to lead his side to a second consecutive title and togetherness being a staple of the team for decades as they take on the might of the US.
With Tommy Fleetwood entering the event off the back of his first PGA Tour title and emotional leader, as well as best player and Ryder Cup legend, Rory McIlroy now a Masters champion and Grand Slam winner, Europe have the big guns to make a big impact. They also have excellent strength in depth with Jon Rahm, Justin Rose and Shane Lowry all capable of magic.
It'll be tight and hopefully an epic for the ages but we're tipping Europe to pull off a major win and keep the trophy for another two years.
Peter Fitzpatrick's Ryder Cup Score prediction:
Europe 14.5 - 13.5 USA (13/1 on AK Bets)
USA vs. Europe Ryder Cup head to head record
The USA has the upper hand when it comes to overall Ryder Cup wins, with 27 wins from the 44 events from 1927 to 2023.
However, they competed solely against Great Britain in 19 of the first 22 Ryder Cups, and then against Great Britain and Ireland in the subsequent three. The record from 1927 to 1977 stood at 18 US wins, three British/Britain and Ireland wins, and a tie in 1969.
The US dominance of the event saw the expansion to a full European team in 1979, and has resulted in a stunning reversal of fortunes. Of the 22 events since, Europe has emerged victorious on 12 occasions, the US on nine occasions, with a tie in 1989.
