The British Open is a difficult challenge for every golfer involved, but participants have a small respite with the tournament's cut line.

Many big-name players had strong Friday performances to ensure they stick around for the weekend. The biggest name to do that was Bryson DeChambeau, who shot a 65 on Friday toe get to +1 after a brutal 78 on Thursday.
However, there are still a few big names that ended up on the wrong side of the cut line. Brooks Koepka and Collin Morikawa both had tough performances in the first two rounds, with each player closing their tournaments at +7.
Meanwhile, Patrick Reed and Cam Smith are also among the notable names at the bottom of the leaderboard, as their British Opens ended in disappointment.

British Open cut rules
At the British Open, the top 70 players (and ties) on the leaderboard make the cut and advance to the weekend. It is the largest cut rule of the majors, as the U.S. Open only takes the top 60 while the Masters takes just the top 50. The PGA Championship, meanwhile, also has a top-70 cut rule.

Players within the top 70 of the leaderboard will make the cut at the British Open. That includes ties, so there will likely be more than 70 players who make the cut depending on how many players are tied for the highest score above the cut line.
In 2019, which was the last time Royal Portrush hosted the British Open, the cut line ended up at +1 with 73 players making the cut. However, last year when Royal Troon hosted, the cut line as +6 with 80 players surviving.
