Oscar Piastri confirms there'll be no repercussions for Lando Norris after US Sprint incident image

It seems that there will be no punishments for either Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris after their crash in the United States Sprint race

Norris was set to be handed repercussions after colliding with his teammate on lap 1 of the Singapore Grand Prix the race before.

But after Piastri's antics at turn one on the start of the Sprint in Austin, it seems the playing field has been levelled out and Norris will no longer be punished.

Speaking ahead of the Mexico Grand Prix, Piastri said; "We go through every weekend, and there is a degree of responsibility from my side in the Sprint. We are starting this weekend with a clean slate on both sides."

McLaren seemed to blame Nico Hulkenberg for the incident in Texas as he also ended up in the collision, but Piastri's move at turn one had fans calling him out for his actions.

It cost them both points, and the Australian's weekend only continued to be bad.

He finished just fifth in Sunday's Grand Prix after qualifying just sixth. He was hardly able to catch anyone ahead.

Norris finished second, after Max Verstappen put on a dominant display from pole to the chequered flag with a 7 second advantage.

Both the Brit and Dutchman have now closed the gap to championship leader Piastri.

Piastri isn't phased by Norris & Verstappen catching up

Norris sits just 14 points behind his teammate, while Verstappen has made a stellar deficit cut to be just 40 points behind.

Five races ago, the four-time champion was 104 points behind Piastri, but with wins in Monza, Azerbaijan and Singapore, plus podium finishes, he's managed to catch up and keep himself in the running for this year's title.

Despite Norris and Verstappen closing in, Piastri says he won't change his approach to winning the title.

"Everyone likes a good underdog story or trying to come back is sometimes a bit easier, but I'd rather have the Championship lead as it means you are doing something right".

The Australian continued; "The thing that is going to help me win this Championship is getting the best out of myself, the team around me and the car. Focusing on anyone else doesn't help."

For the final five weekends of the season, Piastri will have to have perfect performances in both the Grands Prix and Sprint races to maximise points and aim for his first driver's title.

But with Verstappen's advantage in tracks such as Brazil and Las Vegas, and Norris' determination to win, it's going to be a hard battle all the way to Abu Dhabi.
