Lando Norris admits he will face "repercussions until the end of the season" after his first lap contract with Oscar Piastri at the Singapore Grand Prix

When attacking into turn one at lights out, Norris said he was going for Max Verstappen but had his teammate alongside him, which eventually saw him knock the other McLaren.

Piastri showed his fury on the radio and said it "wasn't very teamlike". He called for Norris to be penalised by his team, but nothing was done.

"So are we cool with Lando just barging me out of the way?"

The pair's third and fourth place finish helped McLaren confirm the constructor's championship with six races remaining.

Despite the celebrations, there seemed to be something foul in the air for the Papaya team.

Speaking during media day ahead of the United States Grand Prix, Norris shared the fallout.

“Things are reviewed, and there are and will be repercussions for me until the end of the season. It's not like I've got away with anything, but it was also an incident that, let's say, was small and there was potential to try and avoid it.

“It's something I never want to... I said it after the race, I can't afford to make contact and have anything happen like what happened, because I put just as much risk on my whole championship from something going wrong, as I do on whoever I might be racing against.

“Of course, repercussions for myself, but otherwise the engagement and how we go racing is the same as it's always been.”

Piastri also shared he's happy the incident has been dealt with, calling talks "productive".

“That's in the past now, and the rules won't change because of that. Ultimately, we've got that framework in place for a reason and there's no reason for that to change now. It's been dealt with, and now looking forward to the future.”

“I think we're going to try and go racing as best as we can within what we think is acceptable as a team."

Piastri leads Norris by 22 points in the driver's standings.

Norris and Piastri have gone head to head in the past with poor outcomes. A bad overtake-on-the-inside decision in Canada cost Norris any points, as he ended up crashing into the wall.

But it's clear, both are willing to take more risks with the title on the line.

And with the last six races being full focus on that, will McLaren say goodbye to "papaya rules" and let their drivers battle it out?

According to the drivers, there's just one rule - don't crash into each other.

But it's fair to say, that rule hasn't always been followed. They've been kept in check, with the team most likely looking at the back-to-back constructors trophy hopes.

Now they have that secured, the air may completely change at McLaren.
