West Ham United were surprisingly linked with Slaven Bilic today, but another former Hammer could also be in the frame to be their next manager.

Graham Potter is under huge pressure at the London Stadium, and if results do not improve, then he will be shown the door.

Their former boss, Bilic, is one of several coaches, including Frank Lampard, Sean Dyche, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Kieran McKenna, to be mentioned as possible replacements for Potter.

Another name can be added to this list, with the Independent reporting that "Gary O'Neil is one of the managers West Ham United are considering."

Would Gary O'Neil be a good fit for West Ham United?

O'Neil is a former West Ham player who helped them gain promotion back to the Premier League in 2012.

The midfielder helped the Hammers establish themselves back in English football's top flight before moving on to Queens Park Rangers.

There is unrest at West Ham, with supporters plotting protests against the club's hierarchy. Therefore, appointing a manager who knows the club is crucial.

O'Neil has also had a solid start to his managerial career. He impressed at Bournemouth during the 2022/23 season, keeping them in the Premier League following Scott Parker's sacking.

The Cherries then dismissed O'Neil in favour of Andoni Iraola, but it was not long before another opportunity arose for the Englishman.

Wolverhampton Wanderers was O'Neil's next job, and he took over at short notice from Julen Lopetegui. O'Neil did well in his first season at Wolves, guiding them to a 14th-place finish.

O'Neil then lost his job at Wolves after a poor start the following season. However, this was under difficult circumstances with the club selling key players, including Max Kilman and Pedro Neto.
