Julian Brandt is one of Borussia Dortmund's star players, but his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Dortmund vice-captain could therefore leave the club in January to avoid the club losing him on a free transfer.

According to CaughtOffside, "Newcastle United and Aston Villa are among the clubs monitoring Brandt’s situation closely... Tottenham are also considering a move for the 29-year-old playmaker."

Which of the Premier League sides would be the best fit for Julian Brandt?

Newcastle have had a mixed start to the Premier League campaign, but are in the Champions League.

The Magpies are one of the richest clubs in the world, but still have to abide by the Premier League's profitability and sustainability regulations.

Therefore, a signing such as Brandt on a cut price in January or a free transfer at the end of the season would be attractive for the club's hierarchy.

Eddie Howe's side needs more firepower after losing Alexander Isak to Liverpool at the end of the last transfer window.

Brandt's ability to play midfield as well as on either wing would make him very useful for Howe.

Villa has done business with Dortmund recently, signing Donyell Malen from the club. However, Unai Emery's side has had a poor start to the Premier League season.

They are set to appoint a new sporting director in Roberto Olabe, who would want to make a statement signing such as Brandt. However, without Champions League football, it could be difficult to lure the German to Villa Park.

Spurs are in the Champions League as a result of their Europa League victory. They also need an attacking midfielder with James Maddison out with a long-term injury.
