Ange Postecoglou reveals shocking truth about Tottenham Hotspur exit image

Ange Postecoglou has opened up about his departure from Tottenham Hotspur as he prepares to return to the dugout.

The 60-year-old was dismissed by Spurs after last season despite delivering the club its first piece of silverware in 17 years.

The Europa League triumph was not enough to save Postecoglou's job as Spurs' domestic performances were consistently poor, resulting in a club-worst 17th placed finish.

In recent weeks, Postecoglou had been linked with managerial posts at Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce.

However, he is making a quick return to the Premier League as he was appointed as the new Nottingham Forest boss earlier this week.

The managerial position became vacant at the City Ground after Nuno Espirito Santo was relieved of his duties.

What Postecoglou has said about his Spurs dismissal

In his introductory press conference as the new Forest manager on Thursday (September 11), Postecoglou touched on his Spurs exit and revealed exactly when he was made aware of his dismissal.

"I knew it was coming, so it wasn't a surprise. I knew it was coming a fair way before the (Europa League) final."

"But we won it, we had the parade and I didn't want it to tarnish that. But after that, I knew it was done," the 60-year-old added.

"I had the chance to process that. Whether I feel it was unjust, other people make those decisions and determinations."

The ex-Spurs boss's shocking revelation may come as a surprise to some, as it was thought that triumphing in the Europa League final over Manchester United would save his job.

However, it appears Spurs' decision to move on from Postecoglou was going to happen no matter what occurred in the final in Bilbao.

Postecoglou then revealed that he is looking forward to his new chapter with Forest and not dwelling on the past.

"How it ended, I don't really think about it a lot. You understand that's part of the business we're in."

"That's allowed me to move into this and maybe these things happen for a reason," he stated.

Postecoglou's first game as Forest boss will come away against Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime (September 13).
