Real Madrid-Valencia La Liga: Live updates & highlights
31st min: GOAL! REAL MADRID! MBAPPE HAS A SECOND, FROM GULER! The league leaders find it quite simple as the Turkish international gets a forward pass and attempts a chip from the left flank, sending the ball towards Mbappé, who awkwardly but successfully uses his left leg to reach it. Air to redirect the pass into the net.
26th min: Arda Guler looks to be fine after his early ankle injury, as he feeds a delicious ball through the legs of his defender for Jude Bellingham clear to the end line, where he sends a cutback to the top of the six-yard box but there's nobody to meet it for a finish.
Guler really is having a sensational season!
16th min: PENALTY, REAL MADRID! As Real Madrid take a corner, two Valencia defenders are fully bear-hugging Real Madrid attackers! Both Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe are football tackled by their marks, with arms fully wrapped around their waist!
Initially there is no call from the referee, and the video review has an EXTREMELY long look at this before recommending a review. Somehow, the review is for a handball on the header by Eder Militao, which is quite silly, but it has been given! In the end, it's not for what it should be, but it's deserving nonetheless!
Stepping up is the talisman Kylian Mbappe, and...GOAL! REAL MADRID! He slots home a cool penalty by sending Julien Agirrezabala the wrong way!
10th min: Chance, Real Madrid! Vinicius Jr. Is played in down the left, and his tight-angle shot is saved well by Julen Agirrezabala at his near post!
5th min: Guler does press on for now, and he plays a wonderful pass to Kylian Mbappe down the left edge of the six-yard box, but his tight-angle strike flashes well over the crossbar off a deflection.
2nd min: There's a real problem here for Arda Guler who is down receiving treatment. Footage indicates the Turkish international player sustained an ankle twist after an awkward landing during an aerial duel. This appears to be a serious injury, and it would be a significant setback for Real Madrid if a player in good form had to leave the game so soon.
Should he attempt to proceed, he'll be under close observation. Upon reviewing that replay, it's difficult to envision him playing effectively at full capacity.
Kickoff: They're under way at the Bernabeu! Can Los Blancos hold serve against a relegation candidate and extend their lead to put pressure on Barcelona? Or will they slip up to a lower-tier opponent and open the title race wide open again?
Real Madrid versus Valencia: Pre-game thoughts, breakdown, and additional insights
15 mins to kickoff: Amidst his current off-field gripe with Xabi Alonso and the club, the Bernabeu has shown its vociferous support for Vinicius Jr. When his name is announced in the Real Madrid starting eleven!

30 mins to kickoff: Kylian Mbappe has been exceptional to begin the season, as Xabi Alonso's system has looked to maximise the French superstar. He leads La Liga with 11 goals through 10 games, since no other team in the league's struggling offense has managed more than six.
Before today's game, Mbappé received his Pichichi trophy from the previous season and invited his teammates to join him for a picture!

1 hour to kickoff: The Valencia starting lineup is now available. Duro, whose form against Real Madrid has been on the verge of record-setting, is not in the starting lineup. Arnaut Danjuma and Lucas Beltran are the ones starting up front.
1 hour 15 mins to kick: The Real Madrid lineup is in, and Trent Alexander-Arnold has not been able to work his way back into the XI just yet. Arda Guler will play in the midfield with Aurelien Tchouameni, as Federico Valverde will remain at right-back. On the right flank is the diligent young player Franco Mastantuono, alongside Vinicius Jr. Starts on the left in support of Kylian Mbappe.
1 hour 30 mins to kick: Valencia will hope to have history on their side tonight as they meet Real Madrid. Hugo Duro, a 25-year-old forward, has found the net in his last four league encounters with Los Blancos. Should he score this evening, he'd become the inaugural player to achieve this feat in five successive La Liga contests.
1 hour 45 mins to kick: It will be interesting to see how Xabi Alonso deploys Arda Guler today. The Turkish international player performed exceptionally well in the number. 10th place with Jude Bellingham sidelined, but now that the England international is healthy again, Alonso has had to make space for both players.
Guler performed well after being shifted to the No. 8 position, but with Federico Valverde able to return there, Guler moved out wide against Barcelona, where he was less effective.
2 hours to kickoff: You'd think that with Real Madrid sitting atop La Liga by solid margin at this early stage, and their Champions League prospects looking strong, all would be calm in the Spanish capital. Yet that is far from the case.
Vinicius Jr. His frustrations regarding playing time became evident on the pitch during El Clasico, and despite his apology for the disrespect shown, underlying tensions appear to persist behind the scenes. We took a look at his usage by Xabi Alonso this season, and how he stacks up against other elite wingers globally, to determine if his complaint is grounded in reality or just in his head. What we found is that Vini is simply a product of the evolution of modern football.

Lineups and team news for Real Madrid versus Valencia
Xabi Alonso's primary concerns persist in defense, as Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, both center-backs, are still unavailable. Furthermore, club captain Dani Carvajal is now facing a prolonged absence because of a knee injury.
It was thought that Trent Alexander-Arnold would be back in the starting lineup after being cleared to play, but he's a victim of a squad selection issue that Alonso has had to manage every week. With Jude Bellingham now fit, he's had to find ways of slotting in-form Arda Guler into the XI. Here, the Turkish international is positioned in the midfield, which compels Federico Valverde to occupy the right-back role as Trent continues to be sidelined.
Backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is suspended after retrospectively receiving a red card from the bench during the post-Clasico scuffle last weekend.
Real Madrid starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Courtois (GK) — Valverde, Huijsen, Militao, Carreras — Guler, Tchouameni — Mastantuono, Bellingham, Vinicius — Mbappe.
Real Madrid subs: F. Gonzalez (GK), Mestre (GK), Asencio, Alexander-Arnold, Mendy, F. Garcia, Camavinga, Ceballos, B. Diaz, Rodrygo, Endrick, G. Garcia.
Manager Carlos Corberán faces a few injury concerns for Valencia.
Leeds loanee Largie Ramazani will be sidelined for a few more weeks due to a muscle injury, and defenders Mouctar Diakhaby and Dimitri Foulquier are also facing similar timeframes out with hamstring injuries.
The new acquisition Filip Ugrinic, arriving from Swiss club Young Boys, has found it difficult to perform effectively, with a knee injury further hindering his progress. Hugo Duro is close to establishing a La Liga record, having found the net in four encounters against Real Madrid, yet he's not positioned upfront.
Valencia starting lineup (4-4-2): Agirrezabala (GK) — Correia, Tarrega, Copete, Gaya — Rioja, Santamaria, Pepelu, D. Lopez — Danjuma, Beltran.
Valencia subs: Rivero (GK), Dimitrievski (GK), Panach, Comert, J. Vazquez, Iranzo, Almeida, Guerra, Nunez, Raba, Otorbi, Duro.
