Real Madrid parted ways with their academy graduate, Lucas Vazquez, in July this summer.
Vazquez started his senior career with Real Madrid’s reserve teams in 2010, followed by a season-long loan to Espanyol before joining Los Blancos’ first team in 2015. During his 10 illustrious years at the club, the Spaniard has won 20 trophies, including four La Liga titles and five Champions League titles.
Vazquez has made a total of 402 appearances for Real Madrid during which he recorded 38 goals and 73 assists.
Now, reports have suggested that the 34-year-old is closing in on signing for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen after leaving Real Madrid as a free agent.
What’s next for Real Madrid veteran Lucas Vazquez?
Vazquez has reached an agreement to join Bayer Leverkusen, with the medical assessment privately completed and the contract to be signed soon, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Sky Sports’ Marlon Irlbacher also shared a video of Vazquez’s arrival at Dusseldorf Airport in Germany today.

Vazquez will be signing a two-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Following his departure from Santiago Bernabeu, Vazquez has reportedly received transfer interest from Super Lig side Fenerbahce and other clubs from the Saudi Pro League, Premier League, and Serie A.
Espanyol were also interested in bringing back Vazquez to the club. However, the Spanish star reportedly did not want to play in Spain out of respect for Real Madrid.
It remains to be seen how Vazquez fits into the Bayer Leverkusen squad under their new head coach, Erik ten Hag.
