Real Madrid face a key question over the future of Rodrygo Goes at the start of 2026 amid fresh speculation on his future.
Following this summer's FIFA Club World Cup, the Brazil international admitted to struggling for form and confidence in the final weeks of 2024/25 under Carlo Ancelotti.
In previous campaigns his place was unquestioned, but the arrival of Kylian Mbappe changed things last summer, and the knock on has impacted Rodrygo.
Xabi Alonso's desire to add more midfielders into his starting team, to counter balance the forward thrust of Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, has seen him slip down the pecking order.
Despite the looming rumours of a move to the Premier League in August, Alonso maintained his stance of the former Santos forward being 'an important player' in his plans, and the transfer window closed with the 24-year-old remaining in Madrid.
However, actions continue to speak louder than words, with just one La Liga start in 2025/26 and the expected revival of exit links in January.

Reports from Marca claim Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich dispatched negotiators to Madrid just before the transfer deadline to assess the club's willingness to sell.
However, Rodrygo's representatives quickly got the message out that he was not interested, as he wanted one more chance to prove himself to Alonso.
That has yet to materialise and club president Florentino Perez will listen to offers in January and after the 2026 World Cup next summer.
