Real Madrid's summer transfer window has been busy. The club brought in several players before the Club World Cup, and Xabi Alonso is not done yet.

After a shocking 4-0 loss to PSG in the Club World Cup semifinal, Alonso has also expressed a desire to rid the club of unwanted players.

The manager is looking to bolster Real's defense, and his top target could be on his way to Spain soon.

Who is Real Madrid close to signing?

According to Fichajes, Real are closing in on Ibrahima Konaté. The Liverpool center-back has already expressed his desire to join the Spanish club.

Alonso has highlighted the defensive unit as one that needs work, as two errors in defense led to two of PSG's goals in the semifinal match.

Konaté, who has been at Liverpool since 2021, is ready for his challenge, and he has turned down multiple offers to stay with the Merseyside club.

The fee for the Frenchman is said to be around £43m, as the defender still has a year left on his contract.

Fichajes' report claims that the deal will be finalized in the coming days, which could accelerate Liverpool's attempts to sign Marc Guehi.

Konaté would provide Alonso with the experience and physicality he wants his central defenders to have. Konaté has been a solid presence in the Liverpool backline and the French backline.
