Transfer Deadline Day is a unique and often chaotic day in the football calendar, and this year is no exception.

The Premier League's summer transfer window is about to slam shut, and with it comes a flurry of last-minute deals, medicals, and drama.

Here is everything you need to know about the 2025 summer Transfer Deadline Day.

When is Deadline Day?

The 2025 summer transfer window will close on Monday, September 1.

This year, however, the deadline has been brought forward to 7 PM BST, a change from the traditional 11 PM deadline.

This was done to allow a more normal working pattern for club staff.

The deadline is also harmonised with the EFL, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1.

How to watch?

The day's events will be broadcast live across various platforms, but the most extensive coverage will be from Sky Sports News.

Their coverage will begin at 7 AM on Monday and run all the way until the deadline at 7 PM.

You can also stream the action live on the Sky Sports app and their website.

After the deadline, The Transfer Show will analyse all the big moves on Sky Sports News from 8 PM until 10 PM.

What happens on the day?

Deadline Day is a day of chaos, drama, and excitement.

It is a day when clubs, players, and agents all scramble to get deals over the line.

Deals often fall through at the last minute due to a player's agent demanding a better contract, a medical being failed, or a club simply running out of time to complete the paperwork.

Clubs can get around the deadline with a deal sheet, which allows them to confirm that a deal has been reached and gives them an additional two hours (until 9 PM) to submit the remaining documentation.

This is why you often see deals being announced late into the night.

Why the chaos?

The chaos of Deadline Day is due to a number of factors:

  • Chain reaction: One big transfer can trigger a chain reaction of transfers, with a club needing to sign a replacement for a player they just sold.

  • Negotiation games: Clubs often leave deals until the last minute to try and get a better price. They know that the closer they get to the deadline, the more pressure the other club is under to sell.

  • Player power: Players can often push for a move on Deadline Day, knowing that their club has little time to find a replacement.
