Who won Ballon d'Or 2025? Final results, award winners and full rankings with Salah, Dembele, Lamine Yamal and more in contention image

The 2025 Ballon d'Or has thrown up the most open and competitive field in years for the top individual award in men's football.

Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri lifted the prize — amid much chagrin in Madrid — last year, but an ACL injury suffered last September means he is out of the running this time.

Paris Saint-Germain were Europe's dominant team in 2024/25 and eight of Luis Enrique's treble winners have made the shortlist, with star forward Ousmane Dembele seen as their most likely winner.

Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah and Barcelona wingers Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are also firmly in the conversation.

There is a familiar Barcelona flavour to the Ballon d'Or Feminin nominations list, with the imperious Aitana Bonmati in contention for a third successive triumph.

Who won the Socrates Award?

The Socrates Award is used to recognise humanitarian work carried out by professionals in the game.

Spain forward Jenni Hermoso was given the award in 2024 "in recognition of her exemplary role in the development of equality and empowerment of women's football and her social commitment against sexual assault".

The Tigres UNAL star said: "I'd like to tell all women that I'm going to keep on being courageous and keep on raising my voice to help all those other women who want to make sport and the world a better place."

List of men's Ballon d'Or winners

The first Ballon d'Or was awarded in 1956 to Blackpool legend Stanley Matthews, one of the greats of the English game.

Dutch giant Johan Cruyff became the first player to win it three times in the 1970s. French star Michel Platini won it three times in a row — the first to achieve that feat — in the 80s.

Messi and Ronaldo dominated from 2008-2017, with only Luka Modric capable of stopping that run in 2018.

Messi then won the 2021 Ballon d'Or, beating out Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho by a narrow margin for his seventh trophy before lifting his eighth in 2023.

List of Ballon d'Or Feminin winners

The women's Ballon d'Or has been awarded since 2018 with the 2020 event cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bonmati's back-to-back success as Barcelona swept the podium in 2024 underlined the club's dominance of the women's game. The past four Ballons d'Or Feminin have ended up with the Catalan giants.
