"We need Kobbie", Amorim says as the midfielder requests a loan move image

Ruben Amorim says Manchester United need Kobbie Mainoo, after the midfielder requested a loan move away from the club.

Speculation of Kobbie Mainoo's future at the club has been ongoing during the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old was left out of the squad until their embarrassing defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on August 27.

The England International is currently fighting with Red Devil's captain Bruno Fernandes for the midfield spot.

He is looking to get more game time on the pitch in order to be in contention for Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

United have reportedly denied Mainoo his loan request.

Speaking ahead of their Premier League clash with Burnley, Amorim said: "I want Kobbie to stay and he needs to fight for his place. We need Kobbie. That is not going to change.

The United head coach said players will be disappointed in squad selection, but urged that players must fight for their spot week in week out.

Mainoo has had a dip in form since his stellar performance for England in the 2024 European Championships.

He has been left out of Tuchel's Autumn squad for upcoming international matches.
