Manchester City enter the Club World Cup Round of 16 looking to avoid any surprises from an Al Hilal side brimming with confidence.

But the English side is arguably the tournament’s most fearsome XI, having swept their group with three wins, eight goals scored, and a best-in-class +11 goal difference. Pep Guardiola’s men dominated from start to finish, including a 5-2 dismantling of Juventus to secure top spot in Group G.

However, Al-Hilal won’t be an easy out. The Saudi giants come into the tie unbeaten themselves, conceding just once in the group stage – a record matched only by PSG. Simone Inzaghi’s men proved stubborn and resilient, holding Real Madrid and Red Bull Salzburg to draws before edging Pachuca to clinch second in Group H. While they’ve scored only three goals in the tournament, Al-Hilal’s defensive discipline and the individual brilliance of players like Salem Al-Dawsari give them hope of a shock upset.

This is Al Hilal's just second competitive meeting with an English club after a narrow 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the 2021-22 Club World Cup semis, and victory here would set up a blockbuster quarter-final against either Fluminense or Inter Milan.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times, and the latest lineup news.

Man City vs. Al-Hilal predicted lineups, team news

Manchester City’s hopes of Club World Cup glory have taken a knock with the loss of young star Claudio Echeverri, who suffered an ankle injury in training before the Juventus match and is unlikely to feature again in the tournament.

Rico Lewis will also miss out as he serves the final game of his three-match suspension, while Mateo Kovacic continues his recovery from Achilles surgery back in Manchester.

On the positive side, Erling Haaland marked his return to form with his 300th senior goal off the bench against Juventus and is expected to replace Omar Marmoush in City’s starting XI as Pep Guardiola manages his squad with further rotation.

Man City predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Ederson (GK) — Nunes, Khusanov, Gvardiol, O'Reilly — Gonzalez, Gundogan — Cherki, Foden, Doku — Haaland.

Injured: Echeverri, Lewis, Kovacic
Suspended: None.

Al-Hilal’s preparations are similarly complicated by a major blow to their attack: captain Salem Al-Dawsari suffered a hamstring injury against Pachuca and is now set for up to six weeks on the sidelines, robbing the Saudis of their most influential player.

Simone Inzaghi turned to midfielder Mohamed Kanno as Al-Dawsari’s replacement mid-match and could opt to start him from the off in a more defensive shape to frustrate City.

The Blue Waves will lean on experience at the back with ex-Man City full-back Joao Cancelo relishing a reunion, while Kalidou Koulibaly anchors the defense in his usual commanding fashion.

Al Hilal XI (4-3-1-2, right to left): Bono (GK) — Cancelo, Tambakti, Koulibaly, Lodi — N. Al-Dawsari, Neves, Kanno — Milinkovic-Savic — Malcom, Leonardo.

Injured: Al-Dawsari, Kanno
Suspended: None.
