England face a high-stakes showdown against the Netherlands in their second Group D match of Women’s Euro 2025, kicking off Wednesday at Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich.

After a lacklustre opening 2-0 defeat to France, the reigning European champions are in must-win territory; another loss, combined with a positive result for France against Wales, would see the Lionesses crash out at the group stage. Manager Sarina Wiegman and captain Leah Williamson have both called for significant improvement in possession and composure, with England needing a sharp turnaround to keep their title defence alive.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands arrive full of confidence after sweeping aside Wales 3-0 in their opener, a match highlighted by Vivianne Miedema’s 100th international goal. Wiegman’s former side will know a win effectively seals their place in the quarter-finals, and with Miedema in red-hot form, they’ll look to exploit an England back line that showed cracks against France.

England vs. Netherlands lineups, team news

Sarina Wiegman is expected to consider changes to her England lineup after a disappointing opening game, especially with Lauren Hemp, Lauren James, and Georgia Stanway only recently back from long injury lay-offs, making them unlikely candidates to start two matches in quick succession.

This could open the door for Ella Toone, Chloe Kelly, Grace Clinton, and Niamh Charles, all of whom featured off the bench against France and may now get starting roles if Wiegman opts to rotate. Michelle Agyemang, who made a strong impact as a substitute, could again be called upon if England are chasing a late goal.

England predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Hampton (GK) — Bronze, Williamson, Greenwood, Charles — Walsh, Clinton, Toone — Kelly, Russo, Hemp.

Injured: None.
Suspended: None.

For the Netherlands, Vivianne Miedema celebrated her 100th goal for her country in style with a superb strike to open the scoring against Wales and benefitted from some second-half rest once the result was secure.

Lineth Beerensteyn, who was a doubt before the Wales clash, also got valuable minutes off the bench to ease her back from injury, strengthening Andries Jonker’s attacking options heading into the crucial clash with England.

Netherlands predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Van Domselaar (GK) — Casparij, Janssen, Buurman, Brugts — Groenen, Van de Donk, Kaptein — Pelova, Miedema, Roord.

Injured: None
Suspended: None.
