Benfica and Bayern Munich square off in a decisive Group C clash at the Club World Cup, with both sides eyeing favorable paths to the knockout stage.

Benfica, fresh off a dominant 6-0 win over Auckland City, only need a draw to advance. While their recent form has been inconsistent, the Portuguese side is riding high on confidence after finally earning their first win of the tournament. Bruno Lage’s men have been sharp in front of goal, scoring in 17 straight matches, and they’ll hope to continue that trend against a Bayern side they’ve never beaten in European competition.

Bayern, meanwhile, have already secured a spot in the next round after back-to-back wins over Auckland and Boca Juniors. Vincent Kompany’s boys have been imposing, and a point here would see them top the group. Historically dominant over Benfica, with six wins and 20 goals in their last seven head-to-heads, Bayern will look to assert control early while possibly rotating a few starters.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Benfica vs. Bayern Munich start time

  • Date: Tuesday, June 24

Benfica and Bayern Munich will kick off at 8:00 p.m. BST on Tuesday, June 24, from the Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Benfica vs. Bayern Munich predicted lineups, team news

Striker Andrea Belotti must serve the second of his two-game ban in this decider, so Vangelis Pavlidis will likely lead the line again. Perhaps more significantly, left-back Alvaro Carreras is also suspended after earning two yellow cards in the first two games. Samuel Dahl should replace him.

Gianluca Prestianni impressed against Auckland and could keep his place in the attack, while head coach Lage will need to decide whether veteran Angel Di Maria is ready for a third start in a row. Renato Sanches could return to the lineup against his former club to add some extra cover in central midfield.

Some of Benfica's preparations have been overshadowed by a touchline row between Lage and Orkun Kokcu, who was furious at being substituted against Auckland.

Benfica predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Trubin (GK) — Aursnes, Silva, Otamendi, Dahl — Barreiro, Sanches — Di Maria, Prestianni, Akturtoglu — Pavlidis.

Injured: Florentino
Suspended: Belotti, Carreras

Bayern should have Jamal Musiala available after he returned to training at the weekend despite initial fears of a longer-term injury sustained in the win over Boca. If he is not fit to start, Serge Gnabry could keep his place in the No. 10 role.

Kim Min-jae is also training again after a minor injury, but he is more likely to start on the bench.

Vincent Kompany used Sacha Boey and then Konrad Laimer at right-back in the first two games, so he will have a decision to make for this decider. Otherwise, expect the team to look similar to the one from matchday two.

Bayern Munich predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Neuer (GK) — Laimer, Stanisic, Tah, Guerreiro — Kimmich, Goretzka — Olise, Gnabry, Coman — Kane.

Injured: Musiala, Kim
Suspended: None
