Newcastle United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo, ahead of the January transfer window.
According to TalkSport, The Magpies boss Eddie Howe is an admirer of Mainoo and could consider approaching United for him in January.
The England International wanted a move away from Old Trafford in the summer, with his game time reduced ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Mainoo is said to have fell out of favour with boss Ruben Amorim, but any approach for the midfielder was shutdown.
Amorim has said the side "needs Kobbie", but he was once again benched for the Manchester Derby, where the Red Devils were defeated 3-0.
TalkSport sources say Mainoo's teammates are confused by the head coach's "lack of faith" in the player.
The Manchester United Academy graduate is yet to start a single Premier League game this season.
Amorim confirmed he has to fight for his place in the line-up, competing with captain Bruno Fernandes.
Mainoo's only start of the season was during their monumental loss to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, after fan cry-outs and criticism emerged towards Amorim for not playing him.
The decision to start him in that tournament now feels like a move to shutdown criticism.
The more Mainoo isn't chosen by Amorim and the less game time he gets, the more frustration will build.
And a move to Newcastle will look a more appealing option.
